A Conversation with
Composer Thomas Adès
Visual Artist Tacita Dean
Sarah Rothenberg, Artistic Director, DACAMERA

DACAMERA and The Menil Collection welcome distinguished composer Thomas Adès, CBE, in his first Houston appearance. Recognized the world over as one of today’s greatest living composers, Adès is also active as pianist and conductor, having led award-winning performances of his operas The Exterminating Angel and The Tempest at Metropolitan Opera and beyond. His most recent Grammy Award was for The Dante Project, a collaborative ballet with visuals by artist Tacita Dean.

Thomas Adès in conversation with visual artist Tacita Dean and DACAMERA Artistic Director Sarah Rothenberg about his work and sources of inspiration and the collaboration between the two artists. From Dante’s Inferno to Shakespeare to the films of Luis Buñuel, Adès’s unique musical imagination has often been sparked by great works of the past, creating a remarkable dialogue with the culture we inherit. His insights on music, art and literature promise to open the door to the unique alchemy of his music.
