The award-winning Houston Youth Symphony presents its Winter Concert at Stude Concert Hall at Rice University featuring all five youth orchestras, on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Winter Concert I, beginning at 11:30 AM, features the Debut String Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Jackson Guillén; the String Orchestra, under the direction of Angela Peugnet; and the Sinfonia led by Dr. Brad Smith. The program includes Amapola by Jose Maria Lacalle Garcia, arr. by Robert Longfield performed by the Debut String Orchestra; Mulholland Elegy by Doug Spata performed by the String Orchestra; and Dance Bacchanale by Camille Saint-Saëns performed by the Sinfonia.
Winter Concert II, beginning at 3:30 PM, features the two most advanced HYS orchestras, the Philharmonia led by Conductor Michael Isadore and the Symphony conducted by Artistic Director Dr. Michael Webster. The program features the La Procession de Rocio by Joaquín Turina performed by the Philharmonia and Rite Of Spring, Part I: L’Adoration de la Terre and Part II: Le Sacrifice by Igor Stravinsky performed by the Symphony.
