Preserving the Heritage of Hokusai from Meiji Japan and Beyond

Gain insight into the work of Katsuhika Hokusai as the Canon Tsuzuri Cultural Inheritance Project provides an up-close view of Country Scenes and Mount Fuji at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Dr. Bradley Bailey, the MFAH’s Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Curator of Asian Art, and Dr. Sarah Thompson, curator of Japanese art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, will examine Hokusai’s influence on what constituted “Japanese art” in the Meiji period while discussing the preservation of cultural heritage.

This program is funded by the National Association of Japan-America Societies through a grant from the United States-Japan Foundation and is supported by the Kyoto Cultural Association.
