The Cretaceous Period witnessed the apex of the dinosaurs’ reign. The continents continued to drift, shaping modern geography, and the first flowering plants emerged. This period ended with the devastating Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event, which led to the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs and many other species, leaving an indelible mark on Earth’s history, and ushering in the world we recognize today.
